Wisbech Grammar wanted to focus on pupils who were slightly underachieving, which can be easily missed. SIMS Assessment is helping to spotlight underperformance by identifying these ‘lost’ pupils. Analysing trends is time-consuming – SIMS helps you identify the pupils who need more support and ensure the more able are being stretched. This analysis enables intervention strategies to be assessed and for good practice to be identified.
Having identified that girls performed better than boys in exams, the school introduced a targeted mentoring programme for selected boys, giving them extra support in the run-up to exams.
“Last year the gender performance gap reduced – the girls’ stayed the same so it was clear the boys’ performance had improved. We will use this programme again this year.” Mike Forrest, Director of Studies
